A gỏi cuốn, summer roll, Vietnamese salad roll, or fresh roll (Vietnamese: gỏi cuốn; literally "salad roll") is a Vietnamese dish consisting of pork, prawn, herbs, bún (rice vermicelli), and other ingredients wrapped in Vietnamese rice paper (bánh tráng). They are served at room temperature, and are not deep fried. It is listed at number 30 on World's 50 most delicious foods complied by CNN Go in 2011. Summer roll has gained popularity among Vietnam's neighboring countries and in the West. Many Western restaurants serve Vietnamese summer rolls as an entre. Gỏi cuốn can be served with tương xào consisting of ground tương (tương đen or tương xay) and ground chè đậu mixed with tamarind water, garlic and coconut water (or broth), before being stir-fried with garlic and some sugar and then sprinkled with chili powder and ground peanuts. Alternatively, gỏi cuốn can be served with peanut sauce or few other Vietnamese dipping sauces. In Vietnam and the province of Isan in north-east Thailand, Vietnamese can be seen hand-making rice paper and placing them on the rectangle bamboo trays around their houses. Also in some U.S. grocery retail stores, such as Trader Joe's, a variation of spring rolls can be found sold at these markets. Gỏi cuốn are called by several different English names, including "salad roll," "fresh roll," "fresh spring roll," and "summer roll." Sometimes the word "Vietnamese" is added at the beginning of these words, for example, in Hong Kong they are called "Vietnamese roll," or "Vietnamese spring rolls" in Australia and the United States. Some Asian restaurants in the United States also refer to them as "crystal roll" "soft roll" or "salad roll".

Fresh rolls are easily distinguished from similar rolls by the fact that they are not fried and that the ingredients used are different from (deep-fried) Vietnamese egg rolls. Fresh rolls have gradually become more popular in Cambodia, Thailand, and Laos as well as in Canada and the US or wherever there are a significant number of Vietnamese people. Its popularity is also partly due to several websites promoting Vietnamese food by Western travelers/South East Asia food experts and by word of mouth. Bò 7 món

Bò 7 món (literally "seven courses of beef" in Vietnamese) is a selection of beef dishes in Vietnamese cuisine, which is typically served at weddings. Multi-course meals such as Bò 7 món are representative of higher-end Vietnamese cuisine. Usually, ground beef rolled into balls or formed into pieces will be grilled. Typical dishes, from first to last course are:
  1. Gỏi bò: a salad made with pickled carrot, pickled daikon, and celery salad with thin strips of beef in nước mắm (fish sauce)
  2. Bò chả đùm: Beef patties served with rice crackers
  3. Bò nhúng dấm: Raw slices of beef to be cooked in a heated broth
  4. Bò nướng mỡ chài: Ground beef rolled in pork belly fat
  5. Bò lá lốt: Ground beef rolled in a Lolot leaf (very similar to a grape leaf)
  6. Bò nướng hành: Strips of beef rolled around a piece of scallion
  7. Cháo Bò: Beef Congee
The cooked beef portions are then wrapped (by the individual eating it) with rice paper, a variety of herbs (rau sống), lettuce, cucumbers, and carrots and then dipped in mắm nêm. This sauce is much more pungent in flavor than its cousin, nước mắm (fish sauce), and is not homogenized, allowing the textures of the original ingredients to characterize the sauce. This slightly chunky sauce is made with anchovies and has a sweet and tangy flavor, due to the pineapple that is often added to achieve sweetness. Fish balls

Fish balls are a common food in southern China and overseas Chinese communities made from surimi (魚漿, yújiāng).

魚蛋 (literally "fish eggs") are used at street hawker stalls and dai pai dong in Hong Kong. 魚丸 (yú wán) and 鱼圆 (yú yuán) are more commonly used in Singapore and Malaysia.

Hong Kong

There are two kinds of fish balls in Hong Kong. One is smaller in size, yellow in colour, made with cheaper meat, and is sold on a bamboo skewer with five to seven fish balls. These fish balls are usually sold at food stalls. There are many stalls which support themselves just by selling this kind of fish ball, similar to hot dog stands in the United States. The fish balls are usually boiled in a spicy curry sauce. It is one of the most popular and representative "street foods" (街頭熟食) of Hong Kong. The other kind is bigger in size, white in colour, made with more costly fish meat, and has a considerably different texture and taste. This kind of fish ball is usually eaten with noodles at Chiuchow-style noodle restaurants, and at some cha chaan tengs, which also provide beef balls (牛丸) and cuttlefish balls (墨魚丸). Readily available in traditional markets and supermarkets, the fish ball is also a popular ingredient for hot pot.

Thailand

In Thai cuisine, fish balls are also very popular. They are usually fried or grilled to be eaten as a snack. In Chinese-influenced restaurants, fish balls are cooked in noodle soups and come in many varieties. Fish balls can also be eaten in a curry. Famous is kaeng khiao wan luk chin pla, green curry with fish balls.

Peninsular Malaysia & Singapore

Fish balls are cooked in many ways in Peninsular Malaysia & Singapore. Fish balls can be served with soup and noodles like the Chiuchow style or with Yong tau foo. There is also a type called 'Fish Ball Mee Pok'

Indonesia

In Indonesia fish balls is refer as bakso ikan (fish bakso). The most popular bakso are made of beef, however fish bakso is also available, served with tofu and fish otak-otak in clear broth soup as tahu kok, or thinly sliced as additional ingredients in mie goreng, kwetiau goreng, and Cap cai.

The most commonly eaten type of fish balls is colloquially known simply as fishballs. It is somewhat flat in shape and most often made from the meat of cuttlefish or pollock and served with a sweet and spicy sauce or with a thick black sweet and sour sauce. Fish balls in the Philippines are sold by street vendors pushing wooden deep frying carts. The balls are served skewered, offered with a choice of three kinds of dipping sauces: spicy (white/orange colored) - vinegar, water, diced onions and garlic, sweet (brown gravy colored) - corn starch, banana ketchup, sugar and salt, and sweet/sour (amber or deeper orange colored) - the sweet variety with lots of small hot chilis added. Dark sauces are rare as these are soy sauce based and soy sauce is expensive in terms of food cost for street food. A recent trend in the Philippine fishball industry is the introduction of 'ball' varieties: chicken, squid (cuttlefish actually), and kikiam. The last are low cost renditions vaguely resembling the original Chinese delicacy of the same (soundwise) name. Chicken and squid balls as well as kikiam sell at 4 US Cents. Bánh mì

Bánh mì or bánh mỳ (English pronunciation: /ˈbʌnmiː/, Vietnamese: [ɓǎːɲ mî]) is a Vietnamese term for all kinds of bread. Bread, or more specifically the baguette, was introduced by the French during its colonial period. The bread most commonly found in Vietnam is single serve and resembles a torpedo, therefore the term bánh mì is synonymous with this type of bread. The bánh mì is usually more airy than its western counterpart, so as a result, has a thinner crust. The sandwich made from bánh mì include meat fillings such as steamed, pan-roasted or oven-roasted seasoned pork belly, Vietnamese sausage, grilled pork, grilled pork patties, spreadable pork liver pâté, pork floss, grilled chicken, chicken floss, canned sardines in tomato sauce, soft pork meatballs in tomato sauce, head cheese, fried eggs. Accompanying vegetables include fresh cucumber slices, cilantro and pickled carrots and daikon in shredded form. Spicy chili sauce is normally found in bánh mì sold by vendors in Vietnam. In western countries, especially the U.S., the chili sauce has been replaced with sliced jalapeños, a type of chili pepper that is not grown and consumed in Vietnam. In southern Vietnam, homemade mayonnaise is commonly added to the sandwich. Laughing Cow cheese is also a popular filling in Vietnam. Abroad, bánh mì shops can be found in areas with a Vietnamese immigrant community. The sandwich has become more accepted by mainstream populations in certain urban centers.

Although the term "bánh mì" itself only means bread without any fillings, the term is used to refer to a type of meat-filled sandwich found in Vietnamese bakeries abroad, especially in the US, Canada, Australia, France where there are substantial Vietnamese populations. In the Vietnamese language, the term "bánh mì" is not enough to describe a meat-filled sandwich. Therefore, additional words are added to describe the kind of fillings. For example, "bánh mì pâté thịt" means a sandwich with pâté and meat, usually pork bellies since it is the most common kind of meat. "Bánh mì pâté cha thịt" means a sandwich with pâté, Vietnamese sausage and meat. However, even in Vietnam when somebody says "I'm going to have a bánh mì for breakfast," it implies that he or she is going to have a meat-filled sandwich for breakfast, not just bread. Pfeffernüsse

Pfeffernüsse (also spelled pfeffernuesse in English, in Danish: pebernødder (plural), päpanät in Plautdietsch, and pepernoten in Dutch; singular Pfeffernuss) are small, firm, round biscuits, sometimes with ground nuts. The name translates to pepper nuts in German, Danish and Dutch, describing their spicy taste as well as the fact that many recipes actually call for almonds or walnuts. Bahlsen's pfeffernüsse has no added nuts. Despite the name they do not necessarily contain black pepper. Pepernoten are originally a Dutch treat, baked during 'Sinterklaas', a feast on 5 December (6 December in Belgium and Germany) on which little children receive gifts from the holy St. Nicholas, the partial inspiration for Santa Claus. In Germany, Pfeffernüsse are traditionally made during the Christmas season. Recipes often call for the dough to be rounded into a ball. Today they are sometimes produced with a chocolate base. Like most baked goods, there are many variations of pfeffernüsse. While most recipes call for cloves and cinnamon, some also use nutmeg or anise. A Danish recipe for pebernødder requires white pepper, while most recipes don't use pepper at all. Some versions of pfeffernüsse contain pecans, ginger, or cardamom. Pfeffernüsse are extremely hard when they are first baked. For at least a week, it is difficult to bite into them without first dunking into a beverage. However, they soften with age. In Germany they are also known as "Pimpernüsse" in some places. They are very popular at church concert receptions, especially around Christmas time, and are traditionally given out at Martinisingen. Avril Ramona Lavigne (pronunciation: /ˈævrɨl ləˈviːn/; av-ril lə-veen; born 27 September 1984) is a Canadian musician, fashion designer, actress, and philanthropist. Lindsey Caroline Vonn

Lindsey Caroline Vonn (nee Kildow, born October 18, 1984) is an American alpine ski racer with the U.S. Ski Team. She has won three consecutive overall World Cup and downhill championships (2008, 2009, 2010), the first American woman and third woman ever to accomplish this. Vonn won the gold medal in downhill at the 2010 Winter Olympics, the first ever in the event for an American woman. Vonn also won three consecutive World Cup season titles in Super G (the first American woman to do so), and two consecutive titles in the combined.Vonn is one of five women to have won World Cup races in all five disciplines of alpine skiing – Downhill, Super G, Giant slalom, Slalom, and Super combined – and, as of October 2011, has won 42 races in her career. With her Olympic gold and bronze medals, two World Championship gold medals in 2009 (plus three silver medals in 2007 / 2011), and three overall World Cup titles, Vonn has become the most successful American skier in ski racing history.Vonn received the Laureus World Sports Awards Sportswoman of the Year for 2010. She was also honored again as the USOC's sportswoman of the year for 2010.

At the 2010 Winter Olympics, Vonn planned to compete in five events.  On February 10, she revealed that she had a bruised shin. Vonn said the pain from her injury was "excruciating" and she would have a difficult time competing at the Winter Olympics.  Due to unseasonably warm weather and resultant poor snow conditions, many of the Alpine skiing events were moved back, giving Vonn additional time to heal.  On February 17, in her first event, Vonn won the gold medal in the downhill, besting longtime U.S. rival Julia Mancuso by 0.56 seconds, becoming the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in downhill.

In her second event, the super-combined, Vonn finished first in the downhill portion of the race. However, in the slalom portion, she crashed out because she failed to get her ski around a right-hand gate. Vonn said her shin wasn't the problem. Vonn's friend, Maria Riesch, won the gold, and teammate Julia Mancuso earned the silver medal.In her third event, the super-G, Vonn finished third behind Andrea Fischbacher and Tina Maze. Vonn was 0.74 second back from first place.  On the last part of the race, Vonn said she didn't ski as aggressively as she could have and lost the race because of it. After the race, questions were raised about the setup of the course. Vonn's husband, Thomas, said the course was deliberately set up against Vonn. Austrian coach Juergen Kriechbaum denied any wrongdoing. In her fourth event, the giant slalom, visibility was reduced by thick, low fog.
