Ferruccio Tagliavini (14 August 1913 – 28 January 1995) was an Italian operatic tenor mainly active in the 1940s and 1950s. Tagliavini was hailed as the heir apparent to Tito Schipa and Beniamino Gigli in the lyric-opera repertory due to the exceptional beauty of his voice, but he did not sustain his great early promise across the full span of his career. Tagliavini was born in Reggio Emilia and studied in Parma with Italo Brancucci and in Florence and with Amedeo Bassi, a well-known dramaticverismo and Wagnerian Italian tenor of the pre-World War I era whose voice (as recorded) could not be more unlike Tagliavini's (see M.Scott,The Record of Singing, 1978). It was also in Florence that he made his professional debut in 1938 as Rodolfo in La bohème. He swiftly gained recognition as one of the leading tenori di grazia of his time in operas such as The Barber of Seville, L'elisir d'amore, Don Pasquale, La sonnambula, Lucia di Lammermoor, Rigoletto, La traviata, Manon, Werther, L'amico Fritz and L'arlesiana. Debuts at many of the world's major opera houses ensued. They included: La Scala, Milan, in 1942; the Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, in 1946; the Metropolitan Opera, New York City, in 1947 (as Rodolfo in La bohème); the San Francisco Opera in 1948; the Royal Opera House,Covent Garden, London, in 1950; and, finally, the Paris Opéra in 1951. During the 1950s, Tagliavini took on heavier roles such as Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera, Cavaradossi in Tosca and Faust in Mefistofele; but the quality of his voice suffered as a consequence. Tagliavini retired from the stage in 1965. He continued, however, to give recitals until the mid-1970s. He left behind an impressive discography. The finest of his recordings are those that he made of operatic arias during his heyday in the 1940s. In them, one can fully appreciate his remarkable skill at soft, or mezza voce, singing. He also made a few opera films, notably Il barbiere di Siviglia in 1946 with Tito Gobbi and Italo Tajo. Tagliavini married the soprano Pia Tassinari in 1941. He made several recordings with her and they appeared together often on stage. There is a recording available of them singing Massenet's opera Werther.

Yohanna (born 16 October 1990), known in Iceland by her name Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir, is an Icelandic singer who was chosen to represent her nation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, Russia, with the song "Is It True?", earning 2nd place. Yohanna was raised in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, and started performing on stage at the age of nine after participating in singing classes. Her first album, titled Jóhanna Guðrún 9 was released in 2000 and contained mostly international pop hits that had been translated into the Icelandic language. "Torn", "Genie in a Bottle", and "I'll Be There" are among the songs that Yohanna covered. She released one more album in addition to a Christmas album before stepping out of the spotlight. She also worked in musicals. Yohanna's album Butterflies and Elvis marked her return to the spotlight in 2008. The album was released in Iceland and Sweden with her first single to be "I Miss You". Since Eurovision, Yohanna has performed in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland and Turkey. On 12 May 2009, Yohanna qualified for the Eurovision final after winning first place in the first semi-final. For the final in Moscow, she was joined on stage by backing-vocalists Friðrik Ómar, Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir, and Hera Björk. She came in second place behind Norway, with 218 points. Her debut song, "Is It True?" went on to become a top download on iTunes and a hit in several countries. Yohanna also was Iceland's spokesperson at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 revealing the results of the Icelandic voting. She participated in the Icelandic national round for Eurovision 2011 finishing the national round in third place with the song “Nótt”. Mindy McCready (born November 30, 1975) is an American country music singer. Active since 1996, she has recorded a total of five studio albums. Her debut album, 1996's Ten Thousand Angels, was released on BNA Records and was certified 2× Multi-Platinum by the RIAA, while 1997's If I Don't Stay the Night was certified Gold. 1999's I'm Not So Tough, her final album for BNA, was less successful, she left the label. A self-titled fourth album followed in 2002 on Capitol Records. Overall, McCready's four studio albums have accounted for 12 singles on the Billboard country singles charts. This figure includes the Number One hit "Guys Do It All the Time", as well as the Top Ten hits "Ten Thousand Angels" and "A Girl's Gotta Do (What a Girl's Gotta Do)." Although she has not charted a single since 2002, McCready has received significant media coverage regarding personal events in her life.
