Sheryl Sandberg

Sheryl Sandberg(born 1969) is the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook. Prior to Facebook, Sheryl was Vice President of Global Online Sales and Operations at Google. She also was involved in launching Google's philanthropic arm Google.org. Prior to Google, Sandberg served as Chief of Staff for the United States Department of the Treasury.Sheryl Kara Sandberg was born in 1969 in Washington, D.C.,  the daughter of Adele and Joel Sandberg and the oldest of three siblings. Her family moved to North Miami Beach, Florida when she was two years old.[2] She attended public school, where she was "always at the top of her class."  Sandberg taught aerobics in the 1980s while in high school. In 1987, Sandberg enrolled at Harvard College and in 1991, graduated with a B.A. in Economics and was awarded the John H. Williams Prize for the top graduating student in economics. While at Harvard, Sheryl met then professor Larry Summers who became her mentor and thesis adviser.  Summers recruited her to be his research assistant at the World Bank,  where she worked on health projects in India dealing with leprosy, AIDS, and blindness.  She was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. In 1993, she enrolled at Harvard Business School and in 1995 she earned her MBA with highest distinction.  After business school, Sandberg worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company. From 1996 to 2001, Sheryl served as Chief of Staff to then United States Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers under President Bill Clinton where she helped lead the Treasury’s work on forgiving debt in the developing world during the Asian financial crisis. In late 2007, Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and CEO of Facebook, met Sandberg at a Christmas party held by Dan Rosensweig; at the time, she was considering becoming a senior executive for the Washington Post Company. Zuckerberg had no formal search for a COO but thought of Sheryl as "a perfect fit" for this role.  They spent more time together in January 2008 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and in March 2008 Facebook announced that Sheryl Sandberg would be its first COO, hiring her away from Google. After joining the company, Sandberg quickly began trying to figure out how to make Facebook profitable, before she joined, the company was "primarily interested in building a really cool site; profits, they assumed, would follow." By late spring, Facebook's leadership had agreed to rely on advertising, "with the ads discreetly presented"; by 2010, Facebook became profitable. At Facebook, Sandberg oversees the firm's business operations including sales, marketing, business development, human resources, public policy and communications.

Ann Livermore

Ann Martinelli Livermore (born 23 August 1958, in Greensboro, North Carolina) was Executive Vice President at Hewlett-Packard and since 2004 has led the HP Enterprise Business business unit of HP. She has now been elected for Board Member.Livermore was her North Carolina high school's valedictorian and she holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (earned the prestigious Jim Motley Morehead scholarship) and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.Hewlett-PackardLivermore came to HP right out of graduate school. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of North Carolina then immediately went on to Stanford, where she earned her MBA in 1982. Livermore has been at HP since 1982 and has worked in a variety of sales, marketing, and research and development jobs before being elected a corporate vice president in 1995.In 1997 Livermore was also elected to the board of directors of United Parcel Service. In 1998, when head of HP's software and services business, the company's top executives agreed to put themselves through a 360-degree evaluation. Livermore said "I learned that I'm a very, very well-controlled executive, but that my employees like when I go off the handle every once in a while, you know, show my human side - It reinforced that leadership means touching people's hearts as well as their brains, so since then I haven't worried so much about keeping my lid on." Livermore has been credited with steering HP away from its decentralized culture and hardware mentality and was the brains behind HP's E-services strategy. When HP CEO Lewis Platt announced in March 1999 that he would step down, Livermore confirmed that she wanted the job. Insiders say Livermore was the only internal candidate who made the short list but in July 1999 HP made the former Lucent Technologies executive Carly Fiorina the first female CEO of a Dow 30 company.Since 2004 Livermore has led HP's Technology Solutions Group (renamed HP Enterprise Business in 2009), a $30 billion-plus business that encompasses storage and servers, software and services. The products and services from this organization serve HP's business customers of all sizes in more than 170 countries. Once thought of as a costly distraction, this group is now seen as a source of future growth. Livermore's name was mentioned as a possible candidate to take over at HP when Carly Fiorina was ousted in February 2005 as CEO. Mark Hurd from NCR Corp. was instead picked to be HP's new CEO.On May 13, 2008, Hewlett-Packard Co. confirmed that it had reached a deal with Electronic Data Systems to acquire the company for $13.9 Billion. The deal was completed on August 26, 2008. EDS became an HP business unit and was renamed EDS, an HP company. Ronald A. Rittenmeyer remained at the helm, reporting to Ann Livermore until his retirement. With Mark Hurd's August 2010 departure, Livermore was once again a possible candidate for the top job however lost out to former SAP CEO, Léo Apotheker.Livermore was named in Fortune and Forbes annual ranking of America's leading businesswomen.

Jerome John `Jerry` Garcia

Jerome John "Jerry" Garcia (August 1, 1942 – August 9, 1995) was an American musician best known for his lead guitar work, singing and songwriting with the band the Grateful Dead. Though he vehemently disavowed the role, Garcia was viewed by many as the leader or "spokesman" of the group. One of its founders, Garcia performed with the Grateful Dead for their entire three-decade career (1965–1995). Garcia also founded and participated in a variety of side projects, including the Saunders-Garcia Band (with longtime friend Merl Saunders), Jerry Garcia Band, Old and in the Way, the Garcia/Grisman acoustic duo, Legion of Mary, and the New Riders of the Purple Sage (which Garcia co-founded with John Dawson and David Nelson). He also released several solo albums, and contributed to a number of albums by other artists over the years as a session musician. He was well known by many for his distinctive guitar playing and was ranked 13th in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" cover story.Later in life, Garcia was sometimes ill because of his unstable weight, and in 1986 went into a diabetic coma that nearly cost him his life. Although his overall health improved somewhat after that, he also struggled with heroin addiction, and was staying in a California drug rehabilitation facility when he died of a heart attack in August 1995.
The corner of Haight and Ashbury, center of the San Francisco neighborhood in which the Grateful Dead shared a house at 710 Ashbury from fall 1966 to spring 1968.
Garcia's mature guitar-playing melded elements from the various kinds of music that had enthralled him. Echoes of bluegrass playing (such as Arthur Smith and Doc Watson) could be heard. But the "roots music" behind bluegrass had its influence, too, and melodic riffs from Celtic fiddle jigs can be distinguished.
There was also early rock (like Lonnie Mack, James Burton and Chuck Berry), contemporary blues (such as Freddie King and Lowell Fulson), country and western (such as Roy Nichols and Don Rich), and jazz (like Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt) to be heard in Jerry's style. Don Rich was the sparkling country guitar player in Buck Owens's "the Buckaroos" band of the 1960s, but besides Rich's style, both Garcia's pedal steel guitar playing (on Grateful Dead records and others) and his standard electric guitar work, were influenced by another of Owens's Buckaroos of that time, pedal-steel player Tom Brumley. And as an improvisational soloist, John Coltrane was one of his greatest personal and musical influences.

Ashley Hyman, born on June 19, 1969 (1969-06-19) (age 42)Ruth Elizabeth "Bette" Davis (April 5, 1908 – October 6, 1989) was an American actress of film, television and theater. Noted for her willingness to play unsympathetic characters, she was highly regarded for her performances in a range of film genres; from contemporary crime melodramas to historical and period films and occasional comedies, though her greatest successes were her roles in romantic dramas. After appearing in Broadway plays, Davis moved to Hollywood in 1930, but her early films for Universal Studios were unsuccessful. She joined Warner Bros. in 1932 and established her career with several critically acclaimed performances. In 1937, she attempted to free herself from her contract and although she lost a well-publicized legal case, it marked the beginning of the most successful period of her career. Until the late 1940s, she was one of American cinema's most celebrated leading ladies, known for her forceful and intense style. Davis gained a reputation as a perfectionist who could be highly combative, and confrontations with studio executives, film directors and costars were often reported. Her forthright manner, clipped vocal style and ubiquitous cigarette contributed to a public persona which has often been imitated and satirized.Davis was the co-founder of the Hollywood Canteen, and was the first female president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress twice, was the first person to accrue 10 Academy Award nominations for acting, and was the first woman to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute. Her career went through several periods of eclipse, and she admitted that her success had often been at the expense of her personal relationships. Married four times, she was once widowed and thrice divorced, and raised her children as a single parent. Her final years were marred by a long period of ill health, but she continued acting until shortly before her death from breast cancer, with more than 100 films, television and theater roles to her credit. In 1999, Davis was placed second, after Katharine Hepburn, on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest female stars of all time.
