Tlacoyos


Tlacoyos are oval shaped fried or toasted cakes made of masa. They are similar to fresh corn tortillas, but are somewhat torpedo-shaped and fatter. Tlacoyos are stuffed with refried beans, cheese, fava beans, chicharron or other ingredients. Tlacoyos are often served as an accompaniment to soups and stews. Most traditional tlacoyos do not have lard or salt in the masa, and if not eaten immediately after they are cooked, they become very tough and dry, even if reheated. This dish is similar to the Salvadoran pupusa.The name tlacoyo is a variation of the Nahuatl word tlatlaoyo, a name given to an antojito typical of central Mexico.The tlacoyo is a completely different traditional Mexican dish which must not be confused with a sope or a huarache, but in some regions has started to be used in a similar way, as a base for the same ingredients used for sopes.Since is similar in shape to a huarache (but smaller), and is made of the same corn as the sope and is even thicker (so it has more resistance to humid foods), Mexican street vendors sometimes sell it adding toppings on it, as an alternative to the sopes and huaraches. However, note the traditional tlacoyo is supposed to be consumed without any toppings on it, but fresh salsa, and is on this form in which is mostly found on the streets

Tlacoyos often came in three different colors, but no artificial colors are added to its preparation. The color comes from the cornmeal used to prepare the masa used to make the tlacoyo. The most common is blue, made with blue corn meal

Pot-au-feu



 The pot-au-feu (French pronunciation: [potofø], "pot on the fire") is a French beef stew. According to chef Raymond Blanc, the pot-au feu is "the quintessence of French family cuisine, it is the most celebrated dish in France. It honours the tables of the rich and poor alike."There are variations as to the cuts of beef and the vegetables involved, but a typical pot-au-feu contains:low-cost cuts of beef that need long cooking;usually some kind of cartilaginous meat, such as oxtail and marrowbone;sausage: such as a Morteau sausage, or other strongly flavoured, uncooked smoked sausagevegetables: carrots, turnips, leeks, celery, and onions;spices: bouquet garni, salt, black pepper and cloves.

Cooking cartilaginous meat in the stew will result in gelatin being dissolved into the broth. If the stew is allowed to cool, the broth may turn into a jelly, resulting in an interesting texture. Allowing the stew to cool also allows the removal of excess fat, which floats on the surface and congeals.The dish is often served with coarse salt and strong Dijon mustard and sometimes also with gherkins and samphire pickled in vinegar.The pot-au-feu broth may be used as a soup (often enriched with rice, pasta or toasted bread), as a base for sauces, or for cooking vegetables or pasta. Eintopf (German, lit.: "one pot") is a traditional type of German stew which can consist of a great number of different ingredients. Oden


Oden (おでん) is a Japanese winter dish consisting of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon radish, konnyaku, and processed fish cakes stewed in a light, soy-flavoured dashi broth. Ingredients vary according to region and between each household. Karashi (Japanese mustard) is often used as a condiment.Oden was originally what is now commonly called misodengaku or simply dengaku; konnyaku or tofu was boiled and one ate them with miso. Later, instead of using miso, ingredients were cooked in dashi and oden became popular.Oden is often sold from food carts, and most Japanese convenience stores have simmering oden pots in winter. Coq au vin French pronunciation: [kɔk o vɛ̃] (lit. 'rooster in wine') is a French braise of chicken cooked with wine, lardons, mushrooms, and optionally garlic.While the wine is typically Burgundy wine, many regions of France have variants of coq au vin using the local wine, such as coq au vin jaune (Jura), coq au Riesling (Alsace), coq au Champagne, and so on.Various legends trace coq au vin to ancient Gaul and Julius Caesar, but the recipe was not  documented until the early 20th century; it is generally accepted that it existed as a rustic dish long before that. A somewhat similar recipe, poulet au vin blanc, appeared in an 1864 cookbook.Although the word "coq" in French means "rooster", and tough birds with lots of connective tissue benefit from braising, most coq au vin recipes call for capon or chicken.Standard recipes call for a chicken, red wine (pinot noir, burgundy, beaujolais nouveau, or zinfandel), lardons (salt pork), button mushrooms, onions, often garlic, and sometimes brandy. Recipes with vin jaune may specify morels instead of white mushrooms. The preparation is similar in many respects to beef bourguignon. Mariska Hargitay



Mariska Hargitay ( /məˈrɪʃkə ˈhɑrɡɨteɪ/ mə-rish-kə har-gi-tay; born Mariska Magdolna Hargitay; January 23, 1964) is an American actress, best known for her role as New York City sex crimes Detective Olivia Benson on the NBC television drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, a role that has earned her multiple awards and nominations, including an Emmy and Golden Globe.The daughter of actress Jayne Mansfield and actor/bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay, Hargitay is a former beauty queen who made her film debut in the 1985 horror-comedy film Ghoulies, and her major television debut in the 1986 adventure drama series Downtown. She appeared in numerous roles in film and television shows throughout the late 1980s and 1990s before being cast as Olivia Benson, a role that led to her founding the Joyful Heart Foundation, which provides support to women who have been sexually abused.In 1982, after Hargitay was crowned Miss Beverly Hills USA,  she then competed in the Miss California USA pageant the following year, placing fourth runner-up to Julie Hayek who was later crowned Miss USA.  In 1984, she appeared in Ronnie Milsap's music video for She Loves My Car. A year later she had a small role in the horror film, Ghoulies.[11] Hargitay said in 1986 that she never thought about doing television until a role for the one-hour adventure drama series Downtown was offered.[11] In 1988, she had a recurring role as Carly Fixx in the soap opera Falcon Crest.  She portrayed police officer Angela Garcia in the 1992 series Tequila & Bonetti, and appeared in an episode of the fourth season of Seinfeld. Two years later, Hargitay portrayed Didi Edelstein, the sexy next-door neighbor, in the 1995 sitcom Can't Hurry Love, which starred Nancy McKeon. In 1997, Hargitay played detective Nina Echeverria on the drama series Prince Street, and had a recurring role as Cynthia Hooper during the fourth season of ER.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Casting for the lead characters of NBC police procedural television drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit occurred in the spring of 1999. Dick Wolf, along with officials from NBC and Studios USA, were at the final auditions for the two leads at Rockefeller Center. The last round had been narrowed down to six finalists. For the female lead – Detective Olivia Benson – Samantha Mathis, Reiko Aylesworth, and Hargitay were being considered. For the male role – Detective Elliot Stabler – the finalists were Tim Matheson, John Slattery, and Christopher Meloni. Meloni and Hargitay had auditioned in the final round together and after the actors left, there was a moment of dead silence, after which Wolf blurted out, "Oh well. There's no doubt who we should choose – Hargitay and Meloni." The duo, who Wolf believed had the perfect chemistry together from the first time he saw them together, were his first choice. Garth Ancier, then head of NBC Entertainment, agreed, and the rest of the panel assembled voiced their assent.  Hargitay trained as a rape crisis advocate to prepare for the role of Benson. During the last months of her pregnancy in 2006, she took maternity leave from SVU, and was temporarily replaced by Connie Nielsen.In May 2009, after the show's tenth season, Hargitay and Meloni's contract expired when they were reportedly making $375,000–$385,000 per episode.  During negotiations in April for a new contract, the duo attempted to go after back-end profits as other high-profile Law and Order actors had done in the past.  Elizabeth Warren (born Elizabeth Herring;  June 22, 1949) is an American attorney, law professor, and United States Senate candidate. She served as Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under President Obama. She is also the Leo Gottlieb Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, where she has taught contract law,bankruptcy, and commercial law. In the wake of the 2008-2011 financial crisis, she became the chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel created to oversee the U.S. banking bailout (formally known as theTroubled Assets Relief Program). She long advocated for the creation of a new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which was established by the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act signed into law by President Barack Obama on July 21, 2010. As the special advisor she worked on implementation of the bureau.On May 24, 2010, Time magazine called Warren, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Chairman Sheila Bair, and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro the "New Sheriffs of Wall Street" in a cover story.  On September 17, 2010, she was named a special adviser by President Obama to oversee the development of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The position included the responsibility of recommending a director for this new entity. She was not chosen for the post, with Obama instead nominating Richard Cordray, subject to Congressional approval.On September 14, 2011, Warren announced that she would be running as a Democrat in the 2012 United States Senate election in Massachusetts for the seat currently held by Republican Scott Brown.Warren joined Harvard Law School in 1992 as the Robert Braucher Visiting Professor of Commercial Law.
